Certain sensory pleasures enhance the experience of reading. A refreshing beverage (hot or cold), the right environment (blanket, candle, music, fresh air), a talented narrator for an audio version, and the tactile feel of a quality book.

The feel of a book doesn’t always matter, but a book that is dearly loved deserves some form of dignity. The Hiding Place, A Christmas Carol, Les Miserables, and Hind’s Feet for High Places books fall into the category of “dearly loved.”

Truth and Story

All four of these books qualify as Truth and Story. The Hiding Place and Hinds Feet for High Places are distinctly Christian classics, while Les Miserables and A Christmas Carol are stories of redemption through a change of heart. Christ is not mentioned as the source of the heart change, but discerning readers will understand that there is no other means of grace.

The Engaging Visual Journey books are sturdy paperbacks with soft cream paper and the layout on each page is colorfully adorned with vignettes, borders around the chapter headings, illustrations, and beautifully embellished quotes. Jill DeHaan has been involved in every project which creates continuity in the overall appearance of the series, but Tyndale has found a number of talented additional artists to create the appropriate mood for each book. The Hiding Place includes family photos and pictures of artifacts, because it is a true story. Les Miserables is condensed from an abridgement, but the other three are full-text. All four volumes would make lovely gifts or excellent additions to a family library.
