God manifests His glory in many ways, showing creativity in imagination (stories) and technology (inventions). In The Inventions of God (and Eva), Connis shows how God made Eva in His image because she enjoys making things. Although Eva’s projects don’t always work out as she intends, God is never disappointed with His creation, and He loves Eva and is pleased when she makes things.

In The Stories of God (and Kiki), the focus is on writing stories. Kiki writes about a “slightly forgetful but immensely honorable” heroic prince who is sea otter and goes on adventures, and she has made him to be like her in many ways just as God made Kiki in His image. God has written stories too, and His story is still unfolding. The ending will surpass all the best things what we can possibly imagine!

The themes are very similar and sweetly demonstrate that whether a child’s interests are more STEM or artistic, we are made in the image of God who is pleased when we take pleasure in creating, and who isn’t disappointed when things go awry. The text and illustrations are childlike, energetic, and God-honoring, making these a good choice for a church or home library.
