The Really Radical Book for Kids: More Truth. More Fun. by Champ Thornton. New Growth Press, 2023. 224 pages.

Reading Level: Middle Grades, ages 8-12

Recommended For: Ages 8 and up

We loved the first Radical Book for Kids by Champ Thornton. Hooray for part 2!

Like the first Radical Book for Kids, The Really Radical Book for Kids is “a grab-bag of information both serious and lighthearted, but with a life-changing purpose, written in an engaging, accessible style with eye-catching graphics.” Biblical coverage includes books of the Bible like Proverbs, Romans, Mark, and Genesis, along with general topics like prayer, Bible shapes, and battles. Humor, wisdom, and heresies make an appearance as well as “Why do you to your church?” Famous Christian figures from history are highlighted: Hannah Moore, Lemuel Haynes, Pandita Ramabai, Eric Liddell. I appreciate the diversity of those included, both in terms of gender/nationality and in their various ministries.

Readers will enjoy dipping into this book, reading whichever topic sounds interesting at the time. Jokes, cartoons, and more reward those who delight in telling (or showing) others what they’re reading. It’s not necessary to have read the first Radical Book for Kids, but for those who have, this one ages up nicely. Highly recommended!
