Readers, as part of our 2021 Christmas Gift Lists, we’re featuring favorite Christian publishers and booksellers. Amazon is a great option for many things, but shopping directly from Christian booksellers and publishers is a great way to support fellow Christians in an industry increasingly hostile to Christians. More of your dollars stay in their pockets, and you are showing that these businesses are important and needed! Shopping directly from the source may involve extra shipping costs, but most of the companies we’re featuring offer very competitive pricing (and, often, better sales and discounts).
Note: some of our Christmas Gift List posts contain affiliate links. Read our full disclosure.
What Is The Good Book Company?
The Good Book Company is an international provider of Christian resources that publishes picture books and discipleship resources for all ages. We’ve appreciated their multi-ethnic picture book illustrations, their willingness to tackle so many different subjects from a biblical perspective, and the accessibility of their resources to new believers. There’s a refreshing lack of jargon and the expectation that the reader knows a lot about the Bible already.
Why Shop at The Good Book Company?
Shopping directly from The Good Book Company helps support their work and ministry, like it does for all of the publishers we’ve featured. They also put the proceeds from their sales towards translating materials into more languages and also contribute to Compassion International!
Some especial favorites (notes in parentheses include links to our reviews):
- Picture books with illustrations by Catalina Echeverri, such as God’s Very Good Idea by Trillia Newbell (see our review) and The Christmas Promise by Alison Mitchell and others in the Tales That Tell the Truth series (see our review)
- The Very Best Bible Stories picture books (great for those looking for nonwhite illustrations! see our review of Jonah and the Very Big Fish)
- Bible study resources for teens like the God’s Word for You series (see our review of Proverbs for You by Kathleen Neilson)
- Advent/Christmas resources (we’ve reviewed several recent ones: Is Christmas Unbelievable? by Rebecca McLaughlin, The Promise and the Light by Katy Morgan, The Adventure of Christmas by Ed Drew, Dawn of Redeeming Grace by Sinclair Ferguson, …)
We’ve barely scratched the surface with this list!
