Team Spotlight
What does it look like behind the scenes at Redeemed Reader? We’re taking some time on Fridays to give you a glimpse behind the curtains.
What happens when a bookworm grows up? In my case, I joined the Redeemed Reader team. I’m Hayley, staff writer and the face behind the newsletters as well as the mastermind of our newsletter’s weekly book trivia. I have a mascot (also known as a Goffin cockatoo) named Simon, and some of my favorite things include P. G. Wodehouse, coffee, Shirley Hughes, continual cups of tea, and pilot G-2 gel pens. I’m reading ahead for you!
Some of my recent and favorite posts include:
*Catherine’s War by Julia Billet —Translated from the French, a new graphic novel historical fiction for middle grade WWII lovers
*The Simple Art of Flying —A charming middle grade debut featuring a fractious, poetic parrot and a lonely little boy.
Finding Truth for Toddlers: Why Good Stories Matter
As well as this *recent reflection:
I was halfway through Tuesday afternoon when I remembered, “The Quarterly proof!” Ten minutes later I was heading out the door.
Because of covid, any outing has become a special occasion in our family. So my brother with compromised immunity happily came along for the sake of an outing. (And dear reader, for a touch of whimsy, I did bring Simon, my cockatoo -his lonely shrieks do not sit well with the rest of the family working from home!)
So with brother and bird cage in tow, I drove south, across the Wisconsin river, past the library (mentally wishing I’d remembered to call in a pick-up for our drive through), around the defunct mall, past the old cemetery on Grand Avenue to pull up at the the grey, blocky building of Sun Printing.
I hopped out, leaving the car running, and knocked on the locked glass door, to be ushered in and greeted by Carl, our printing contact. He passed me a proof copy of our latest Quarterly, “The Literary Family.”
Several moments of chatting with Carl and then back home, to spend the next day, armed with pens and highlighters doing a final copy editing check.
Readers, why do I tell you? Because as a team, we are SO excited by this part of our membership. This month, Redeemed Reader will celebrate its 10th birthday. We have a decade of experience, book reviews, and resources to share with you.
The Quarterly draws from this realm of knowledge as it produces exclusive content for our Golden Key Members. Want to learn more? Read about The Quarterly here or find out about membership.
