light for my path

When it comes to teaching a very young child about reverencing and loving the Word of God, this simple, beautiful alphabet book based on Psalm 119 is just about perfect. Carman and Ratterree begin each page spread with the phrase “God’s Word, Law, Statutes, Decrees, Commands, and Precepts are…” followed by adjectives in alphabetical order such as “absolute, blessings, comforting, and delightful.” (This format is especially appropriate for this psalm because Psalm 119 is a Hebrew alphabet acrostic.) Each spread is illustrated with lovely nature drawings of plants or animals that begin with the letter, but are not named—the emphasis is on the Word of God, not creature identification. This book is fantastic for young children because they love repetition and are likely to join in, and also because they can hunt for the animal from the previous page on the following spread. The complete text of Psalm 119 is provided at the end.

This book is not currently in print, but the ebook is available from Apologia.
