Recommended for: ages 6 and up

The subtitle of this large-format picture book sums it up well: “an explorer’s guide to geography, animals, and cultures through God’s amazing world.” Roughly 13 inches tall, this book won’t fit on your standard bookcase shelves. That being said, every inch is used!

Countries and regions are presented in colorful two-page spreads with stylized art and text boxes scattered around the page, on top of the geographic boundaries (much as the cover looks). Country pages include at least one person from church history connected with that geographic area. It’s exciting to read about people from around the world I’ve never heard about. For example, Venezuela includes Susana Paz Castillo Ramirez who helped run a hospital.

Other features on the country pages include “learn the language” with a few words to learn, “key facts” which includes facts that kids will find interesting (such as the national bird or dish), and all sorts of interesting animals and natural features (waterfalls, highest mountains, etc.).

Bottom Line: If we hadn’t already begun this year’s summer reading (with our Around the World theme), we’d have included this vibrant, fascinating look at God’s world and His people!
