We hear a lot about mental health these days, particularly after a year of stress, anxiety, and, um, more screen time than any of us thought was healthy 18 months ago. Adulting 101, Book 2 is, therefore, quite timely. Adulting 101, Book 1 was a treasure trove of practical advice and tips for everything from landing a job interview (and what to wear to that job interview) to managing money, keeping up with possessions, and more. Adulting 101, Book 2 is all about knowing yourself: what is your vision? how do you create healthy boundaries? lead others? care for others? what is depression?

Like the first book, Adulting 101, Book 2 is a perfectly sized hardback with bookmark, clearly laid out internally with lots of lists, headings, and short chapters. Busy young adults will find this book accessible, both as a first-time read and also as a resource on their shelf to refer to later. The majority of the book reads much like any other wise guide to knowing oneself and setting healthy boundaries. But the book ends with ultimate Truth:

You can’t truly know yourself without knowing God…. We don’t know who we are until we know whose we are.

Burnette and Hardesty, p. 183

Burnette and Hardesty are winsome and personable as they relate their own struggles, successes, and life experiences. Even “non-readers” will find the Adulting 101 books helpful and enjoyable to read. Those heading off to college this fall or into the workforce will find much wisdom to glean from this book and its companion novel. Recommended, especially for those young adults who haven’t had the benefit of wise, caring parents and teachers helping guide them up to now.
