National Geographic Kids: Robots

Robots by Melissa Stewart. National Geographic Kids, 2014, 48 pages.

Reading Level: Early reader, leveled reader
Maturity Level: 2 (ages 4-8) and up

It can be hard finding books at the right level to interest and challenge young readers. Nonfiction leveled readers at this stage tend to provide lots of visuals to draw readers in and can stimulate their desire to read and find out more information. National Geographic Kids Robots is one volume we have enjoyed in a series that offers plenty of topics to choose from, including technology, zoology, and earth science. Plenty of great photos, timeline, vocabulary, good use of color and layout, facts highlighted in boxes on each page, and a visual glossary at the end make this a good choice for parents or educators to leave lying around anywhere a potential reader might pick it up. Choices are available in three reading levels. (I have not seen any of the animal readers to determine whether there is evolutionary content.)

Literary Quality: 3 (out of 5)
Worldview: 3 (out of 5)

Cautions: none
Audience: parents, educators, children (0-4), children (4-8)
Recommended use: independent reading choice, curriculum tie-in, science enrichment
