It’s Flannery O’Connor Week here at RR! We’re very excited to be talking about Jonathan Rogers’ new biography of her, The Terrible Speed of Mercy. We’ll have an interview with Jonathan later in the week, as well as a review of the book and maybe a giveaway. So check back soon to find out how you can introduce your high school students (or yourself!) to this influential Christian writer.
And while we’re whetting your appetite, we’re gearing up for a series in October on building your own home or church library for kids. To include a large stack of book giveaways, as well as interviews and book recommendations all month.
For now, though, it’s time for this week’s Web Newbery’s: hilarious, surprising, or otherwise noteworthy kids’ book-related posts around the web.
- The Alchemist: The Gospel Coalition continues its series on Reading for Worldviews.
- Why Wal-Mart Deleted Kindles: You can’t buy Kindle at Wal-Mart anymore. Here’s why, from the NYT.
- How Parents Feel about iPads: “Perhaps most interestingly, reading ebooks has not replaced reading print books together in families with iPads.”
- Why You Shouldn’t (always) Read Blogs: What do books offer that even the best blogs can’t?
- Children’s Bible Reading Plan: Yes, we have a Bible reading plan, too. (See our Bible Reading Challenge.) But not every plan works for every family, so here’s another one worth looking at by our friends at Headhearthand.org.
- Fall Kids’ Books: One blogger’s list of good fall books for kids. (Very fun website to browse, by the way.)
We’re also testing our new polling software. Jonathan Rogers suggested that we poll you guys about the topic below. Let us know what you think!

Hmmm. Just for the record, the poll isn’t showing all the results. We’ve had a number of people vote today but they just aren’t showing up. Sorry about that! Will try to work on it soon.
