Something Better Coming: The life of a new author

In which Megan’s books arrive and she and her boys have fun with them, and why the books will not be sold through Amazon.

The long-awaited arrival of 2000 copies.

Something Better Coming arrives by freight

The fort built out of books.

(My boys wish I had ordered an extra thousand copies and wondered if the boxes would make good airsoft barricades.)

“Mommy, are you giving me one of these books for Christmas?”

Sweet helpers (sometimes table bumpers).

They help unwrap the plastic on the books so I can autograph them before passing them on to Ryan, the illustrator, to sign.

So. The Kickstarter books have been shipped and more have been placed in local venues, from German-Baptist shops to indie bookstores. Have you pre-ordered your copies yet? (Golden Key members get a discount!)

This has been received with equal enthusiasm by both young and old.

(Are you looking for something your children can give their grandparents for Christmas? Or a book for your parents to give to your children?)

First interview

I enjoyed talking with Laura Miller on the Library Laura Podcast about Something Better Coming as well as Truth, Story, knitting, tea, the books that shaped me, and so much more.

Here’s a summary of our discussion, along with LOADS of links!!

Why will the books not be sold on Amazon?

Because right now the Lord is keeping me busy selling plenty of copies without it. One Sunday I mentioned to Ryan that I was wondering how to deal with the remaining 1600 copies in my basement, and Ryan responded “Well, I’m pretty sure the Lord doesn’t want you to worry about that.”

I went home, took a nap, and woke to find two messages requesting a total of 15 copies. The books haven’t even launched officially yet (November 2!), and right now I’m too busy filling orders to set up as a seller on Amazon. I plan to inquire with small and mid-size Christian distributors if they would consider carrying it, and trust the Lord to open doors. And church bookstores, book tables, etc.

The Lord doesn’t need Amazon to fulfill His purposes.

If you are local, you will be able to find the books at Givens’ Books in Lynchburg, The Cheese Shop in Waynesboro, Jamison’s Orchards in Roanoke, Book No Further in Roanoke, and I expect the list to grow. (Any recommendations??) I hope that readers will share it with others.

And of course, it’s on my website, Literaritea Press.

Bless the Lord…there is something better coming!
