Time travel and small town America collide in The Unlikely Intrusion of Adams Klein, an action-packed series starter to the TimeFall Trilogy.

The Unlikely Intrusion of Adams Klein (the TimeFall Trilogy) by John Greco. Moody, 2025. 288 pages.

Adams Klein Is About to Go on an Adventure
Water. Cold. Ice. Someone looking for something. A hand. . . .
The future. 2196. Someone is trying to kill the Marshal, or so he dreams. But thanks to science, he has determined just who this threat is, and he is going to eliminate it.
Friday. Just another day for 14-year old Adams Klein, and he is dreading gym class.
How do these disparate threads connect? Without giving too much away, Adams is sent to the past (our present) to escape the Marshal. Despite a warning to not alter history, he befriends two peers. But the future comes looking for Adams, and soon he and his new friends are dodging time-travelling clone soldiers. Helped by an enigmatic doctor, events escalate until a tense finale that will leave readers wanting more with an epilogue that is both satisfying and tantalizing.
An Ambitious Series Opener
In The Unlikely Intrusion of Adams Klein readers are introduced to a future full of fantastical scientific advancements. Indeed, John Greco might have placed it even farther in the future for more plausibility. While some of the science might require suspension of belief, the time travel as a plot element is done very well. In addition, the supporting cast of characters are interesting and well fleshed out.
The story moves along at a brisk clip with enough action and twists to engage readers. Marketed for preteens, the story’s style is reminiscent of a middle grade novel, but its level of action and violence is edging toward YA territory. As a result, the book will best be enjoyed by mature tween and early teen readers who are leaving MG fiction behind but not quite ready for the larger YA genre. Though it contains an adventure, the book’s greatest weakness is that the action feels secondary to the trilogy’s looming conflict between Adams and the Marshal.
Considerations: none
Bottom Line: An exciting series starter for young teens and mature tweens that will leave them eagerly awaiting its sequel.
