Behold, the Lamb of God Has Come is a warmly conversational Advent family devotional that invites us to rejoice that Jesus has come!

*Behold, the Lamb of God Has Come by Trillia Newbell. Harvest House, 2025. 128 pages.
Recommended for: All ages! But especially for families with middle grade kids and up.
Trillia Newbell writes winsomely in the prologue:
My hope is that in reading this, you might be encouraged during this time. You may be experiencing trials this season, or you might be overwhelmed by the busyness of it all, or you might simply lack joy. Regardless of where you are, there’s one thing we all need regardless of our circumstances: We need Jesus, and He has given Himself fully to us.
And we can all say, “yes and amen” to that!
Behold, the Lamb of God Has Come is a straightforward, cheerful Advent family devotional that breaks up the 25 days into 5 groups of 5 readings. A family can begin 5 weeks before Christmas, continue 1 week after Christmas, or read the book straight through in 25 days. Each set begins with a Christmas hymn, followed by a Psalm, and then focuses on the character and nature of Jesus for the remaining 3 readings. Each set concludes with a Newbell family recipe. (And, for those of you who think you can’t add one. more. thing. to your holiday lineup, these are delicious-looking, but family-friendly recipes. The whole family can participate in the simple goodness Trillia offers up.)
Each day’s reading is warmly conversational in tone and concludes with a few thought-provoking questions. There are no crafts, ornaments, or complicated extras, making this a great choice for families who need something simple that points them to Jesus without adding to their to-do list.
This is a lovely book, too. If you’re looking for a good gift book, Behold, the Lamb of God Has Come is a great possibility. It’s a small hardback with simple, colorful decorations throughout. Readings are in an easy-to-read font with plenty of white space (ask those of us with aging eyes why this is important!).
