Your children will learn all about Bible animals in this visually-engaging, thoughtful picture book.

*All About… Bible Animals by Simona Piscioneri. Good Book Company, 2023. 48 pages.
- Reading Level: Picture books, ages 4-8
- Recommended For: Ages 4-10
Do your children love to check out DK “eyewitness” books and similar titles from the library? Have you ever wished for a title like those but from a Christian perspective? All About … Bible Animals to the rescue!
Each double spread features one type of animal (“frogs” or “flocks and herds” or “the thirsty deer”) and ties it to a passage in the Bible that talks about that animal. Photographs of the animal(s) are scattered on the pages and facts about the animal accompany the photos.
But what really sets this book apart are the Bible facts that also accompany the photographs. For instance, for “The Thirsty Deer,” Psalm 42:1-2 is printed on the page along with a description of poetry, an explanation of what David (author of the Psalm) may have been going through, and a short nugget about which kinds of deer were most likely to be found in Israel. Other pages include Bible words young readers may not be familiar with (such as “sin” or “plague”).
I’ve compared these to the DK Eyewitness books, and that is certainly an apt comparison. However, All About … Bible Animals is much less cluttered. The extra white space on the page (compared with books like the Eyewitness books) are very helpful for young readers who sometimes have trouble focusing on all the different elements on a page. As an added bonus, this book is easier to read aloud because it’s not quite as scattered.
Bottom Line: All About Bible Animals would make a great school classroom addition or a gift for a young animal lover.
