Tea Party Rules is a picture book for anyone who loves bears, tea, or just a fun story.

Tea Party Rules by Ame Dyckman and illustrated by K. G. Campbell. Viking Books for Young Readers, 2013. 40 pages.
- Reading Level: Picture books, ages 4-8
- Recommended For: Ages 4-8
A bear cub playing in the woods happens upon a small table set for tea with a stuffed bear and a doll waiting to be served. Cub asks for a cookie and gets no response, so he takes the stuffed bear’s place at the table. The girl who brings out the tea is suspicious of the pretender, so she puts him to the test in hilarious ways. This is almost too much, but the bear suffers through, hoping for cookies. Though soft-hued illustrations imply daintiness, the expressions exchanged are anything but prim. The ending provides a marvelous twist.
Bottom Line: A fun read-aloud for anyone who will do what it takes to earn a cookie.
