Charley Harper’s Book of Colors by Zoe Burke and Charley Harper

Charley Harper’s Book of Colors by Zoe Burke, illustrated by Charley Harper. Pomegranate Kids, 2015. 24 pages.

Reading Level: Board books
Recommended for: Ages 0-4

Burke’s engaging poems introduce the late American modern artist Charley Harper to a new audience. His vibrant colors and distinctive shapes make this an ideal choice for the littlest listeners who are ready to expand their artistic repertoire beyond Eric Carle. His textured backgrounds and details are a beautiful complement to the animal on each page, and there are plenty of simple shapes to emphasize along with each color. The animals chosen are are both familiar and unique, and the poems are a nice accompaniment. This is a great choice for a baby gift or to pick up at the library.
